The journey to Casa Sul Monte

Part of the experience of staying at Casa Sul Monte is travelling into the beautiful mountains of southern Italy.

Castelluccio Superiore sits within Pollino National Park, surrounded by forests, valleys and dramatic mountain scenery. The journey is straightforward, with the final part taking you away from the main roads and into the quieter landscape of the Pollino mountains.

From Naples

If you're flying into Naples International Airport, the drive to Casa Sul Monte is straightforward, with much of the journey on the excellent A2 motorway.

The A2 is a modern, well-maintained motorway with a speed limit of up to 130 km/h, taking you south through the Italian countryside towards Basilicata.

There is currently a small motorway toll of approximately €2.30 on the route. Keep some change as they do not take card payment.

If you have time, Pompeii makes a fantastic stop when travelling to or from Naples, allowing you to combine your stay in the mountains with one of Italy's most famous ancient sites.

As you get nearer to your holiday home the journey becomes part of the adventure, winding through beautiful countryside, dramatic mountain scenery, tunnels and bridges as you make your way towards Castelluccio Superiore.

From Salerno

Salerno Costa d'Amalfi Airport provides another option for reaching Casa Sul Monte, if you live near London Stansted there are regular flights.

From Salerno, you'll travel south on the A2 motorway towards the mountains and into the Pollino area.

Arriving in Castelluccio Superiore

Casa Sul Monte is located within the village, where the traditional streets are narrow and steep. The drive is 10 minutes from the motorway junction.

Parking is available a short walk from the house, and the final approach involves village paths, steps and some uneven surfaces.

This is part of the character of staying in a traditional Italian mountain village, but it's worth knowing what to expect before you arrive.

Eventually, you'll leave the main roads behind, arrive in Castelluccio Superiore, park the car and walk into the village.

And that's when your Italian adventure really begins.
